Working with
Family Systems
as
Fields of Wisdom
We are all born into a
constellation which is our family and we need the relationships
within that constellation to support and nurture us in a loving
way in order to survive and to thrive.
Philosopher and family therapist
BERT HELLINGER observed family constellations to identify
"What Makes Love Work in Relationships." He described
the dynamics which he saw to be consistently supporting all
members of the group and releasing the flow of love as:-
"THE ORDERS OF LOVE"
He saw the dynamics as deep and
below the level of consciousness. Just as gravity holds us on
earth, so another unseen force binds us to one another and must
be honored. In situations where that order is disrupted, a
pressure is exerted on all members of the group. Some, usually the most
sensitive and vulnerable members, feel the effect of that
pressure in a way which leaves them feeling stuck and limits
their capacity to fulfill their potential, or to love and be
loved.
Circumstances which disrupt the
natural order of family bonds include break-up of a family
or a bonded couple, failure to grieve a premature death,
exclusion of a member, and family issues like guilt,
'secrets' or misfortunes which may continue to influence the
system and need to be reckoned with for generations. The
disruption may present in relationships, as illness or as other
problems.
WORKSHOPS ARE NOW BEING OFFERED WITHIN AUSTRALIA
These workshops are based on that
integrative approach to psychotherapy which has been developed by
Bert and his co-workers over the past 20 years, and has gained
wide acceptance in Europe and over 100 other countries. The work
is increasingly gaining recognition in Australia for it's power
to provide a means for the source of hidden entanglements to
be explored, made conscious and clarified under therapeutic
conditions. In the workshops when working with a family
constellation the client is invited to place people in position
around the room to represent the members of his or her family and
their relationships to one another, as a path to a solution.
People who have done this work
report feeling released to 'take life' and move forward in
such a way that love and loyalty are able to flow freely. The
work can open the way for the transformation of isolation into
closeness; obligation into freedom and fear into loyalty, thus:-
"RESTORING THE FLOW OF LOVE IN RELATIONSHIP"
Benefits may be gained from
exploring one's own family constellation, participating as a
representative in a constellation or by observing the work of
other people.
